A Great Experience

Like every other new joinee, I was extremely perturbed before entering DY Works. What will the place be
like? How will the people be? Will I learn new things? How will my experience be? These questions kept playing on my mind, but I was put to ease at the end of my first day itself.

The ambiance was much more relaxed and friendly than I expected. I admired how people had so much to do and yet took the time out to speak to and explain things to a new person. It did not take me long to realize that DY Works was a closely- knit organization, with a management that truly cared for the welfare of everyone. I was amazed at how they had a massage and yoga session during office hours.

I think one of the most fun days at DY Works was when we had to create the letters of ‘DON’T STOP’ in a
three- dimensional, creative and unique way. It was amazing how every team came up with something so brilliant and unique. Another fun day was the day when we celebrated Diwali with the decorations, games, food and bonding. Though there was a lot of work, many such wonderful experiences filled my time here.

My experience here was truly like no other. I had come here to learn and I managed to learn a considerable amount about marketing. Whenever I had too much work that was boring and taxing, there was always a fun assignment in the middle. One such assignment was that of making word maps, which I found really cool. As I put together presentations, I learned some interesting things about the coffee market and the hair care industry. I liked how, there was someone (Ashita) always there whenever I had any questions, concerns, to teach me things, to review my work and in general.

There was a lot of work, but it also came with a considerable amount of learning. The leading FMCG client based team - Ashita, Snehal and Vinay- which seemed like the team that burnt the midnight oil way too often, was great and it was a pleasure working with each one of them. As I said, my experience at DY Works was wonderful and I will definitely miss the people, work and the experience, as I go back to my life as a college student.

“But you’re just 18! Are you sure you want an internship right now?”

To your average fresh-out-of-high-school 18 year-old, the word “office” invokes nothing more than dull images of world-weary grown-ups who waste away in the workplace with absolutely no social life whatsoever. This was why the minute I decided to intern at the DY Works office, I suddenly had visions of being holed up in a cold, dark corner with nothing but reams of data for company. Compared to the fact that most of my friends were spending their summer vacation on the beach/at the movies/partying it up before university, I wondered whether this internship would really be worth it.
My very first day at the office proved to me that my decision to intern here was one of the best ones I've ever made.
I mean I have never even HEARD of a place where people take foosball matches as seriously as their client meetings. Or where it’s perfectly acceptable, if not encouraged, to pick up a guitar and burst into song at any point in the day. Or even where the supervisors chase their co-workers around and play catch with empty boxes.
Of course, there’s a lot of work that’s done too. I myself spent a couple of my first days furiously researching market trends until 2 a.m. with the hopes of being able to at least understand, if not contribute to the discussions going on around me. I almost gave up by the second week, when Sangeet gave me a 200+ slide presentation with enough data to last me a lifetime, I kid you not.
But the thing that I appreciated the most about this internship was that everyone here was incredibly supportive. After getting over the whole “you just finished high school? What on earth are you doing here?!” everyone I worked with was kind enough to give me proper, analytical work to do, work that I actually had to think about and that really mattered in the end (as opposed to, say, fetching coffee or stapling documents.) I’d like to thank Alpana Parida for giving me this opportunity to get work experience that’s going to help me in university more than I can currently fathom.
Also, special thanks to all of the friends I made here. My internship would have been incomplete without Guru Zubinji’s life gyan, reminiscing about high school with Devaunshi, bonding with Shraddha, teasing Smiti about her being older than me and finally, putting up with John the Bully. It pleases me to know that I will always be remembered as the intern who brought cupcakes on her last day here.

BONDING

BEING – there for each other
OFFERING – unconditional support
NUTURING – to bring out the best
DEVELOPING – in each other’s company
INDULDING – for lasting
NEVER NEGLECTING – no matter what
GROWING – stronger and stronger each day

Such is the culture at dyworks. Everyone gets involved in each other’s companionship and they love to be in there for each other. Daily bonding starts at the cafeteria, each gets their own breakfast and enjoys the same by sharing it and having altogether. It looks like they wait for the each day anxiously. Its fun to watch them in the midst of each other. While watching them together may be for breakfast, lunch or evening snacks, one will never notice any kind of discrimination, position, status, caste… all are like one FAMILY (dyworks family)

They are together for nearly 8-9 hours or may be more than that, they learn, they share and they explore in each other company. Full of energy, filled with fun and frolic, time just passes away but their pleasant and enthusiastic moods keeps lasting till the day end.

Pulling each other’s legs, teasing, making jokes together, it’s so is their daily activities and they cannot do without it. Personal tensions and problem are all left outside the glass door and one enters a different environment which does not remind them of their worries and tension atleast for another 10 to 12 hours.

Words cannot cover the culture of dyworks it will just go on but brief above speaks of all their B-O-N-D-I-N-G

Showing off My Cool Job

So this is just a wide eyed account of how interning with the New Media and Retail departments is (yes, I know it sounds like a lot of stuff, but really it is just fun learning nothing high-fundoo intimidating). I honestly have very little experience of working overall but I always really wanted to experience life at a media firm. It always sounded so cool, so chilled, with all these smart, bright people with very unique style statements, who came up with the jazziest designs, campaigns and witty tag lines! So when my B-School announced DMA Yellow Works as one of the recruiting firms, I jumped at the chance!

I read up every possible piece of item available on the internet about them and all of their 12 big bosses, the clients, work and life. Felt like somebody had read my mind on exactly what I was looking for in an internship!!! And thus began the process of worrying about making it in somehow and here I am!
The two weeks here have been such a whirr, the excitement never dying down!

They just swooshed by between the projects, scouting for lunch places every day, making merry and non-stop friendly banter with John the Social Media guy, and the other two interns Swati (the fun one) and the Big-shot IIT-IIM-Deliotte guy Piyush (I was just kidding Piyush, it’s actually damn cool to have someone so smart around).

The evening brought the yoga sessions (where the sir makes us “go to max and then slightly beyond max”- his catchphrase that everyone else says for him now-a-days), the evening snack that I so love not just for the suspense that is maintained around what it will be for some reason, but also for hearing about what all the other teams do all day! They’re always so busy doing stuff like giving out names to these chips, lassis, shampoos and whatnot, creating such gorgeous labels, the store displays, and all the fun online content these brands give out; basically designing our thoughts about these brands. It’s actually so fascinating and sort of creepy how they direct our thoughts completely!
